Ten artists from Germany and Eastern Europe have been invited to give thought to the theme „ATLANTIS I – Hidden Histories - New Identities“ with the aid of works relating to a specific location. Twenty years after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the search for hidden stories and new identities shall begin, using the mythical Atlantis as a reference: Atlantis was first mentioned by the philosopher Plato in his dialogues in a philosophical argument regarding the ideal state. The personal views and biographies of the artists will be articulated in the works. Schloss Marquardt is the most ideally equipped location for such a conflict. It is located at the border of the Potsdam castle region which can be seen as a symbol of a classical idealistic countryside, yet at the same time it still openly shows the scars of war and European division. Decay and new beginnings, collapse and rising up again – all of these contradictions come together in the Prussian arcades.
